occupation event 5My friend and colleague Raphael stayed with me at Gates & Throop for almost two weeks this Spring.  We had a great time and it was so nice to see him in NYC after seeing him so often in his city of São Paulo.  Rapha is helping on the project there, and most recently, we helped the Occupation São João to plan content for their Cafe Imaginario monthly event, which had the theme of home.  For that event, we installed the portraiture of occupiers (by Leandro Viana) and screened a film on forced eviction, which is part of a WITNESS/Amnesty International advocacy toolkit on the same theme; here’s a blog on the event at the occupation.  As you can see from this blog, this line of work runs in Rapha’s family:
